CBCGDF CCAfa Helps Sand Martins Restore Their Homes in Shijiazhuang
Recently, Hebei Economic Life Channel "News Today" broadcast a report on the protection of sand martin (Riparia riparia) in Shijiazhuang, Hebei.
The sand martin first attracted the attention of Hebei people in 2019. That year, the Huai River in Yuanshi County, Shijiazhuang, was undergoing river regulation. When the nests of several sand martins were about to be bulldozed, Mr. XING Shijie, a local wildlife protection volunteer who was patrolling nearby, hurriedly stopped it.
After that, Mr. Xing ran around, and finally, with the intervention of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), jointly held the "Expert Seminar on the Protection of Sand Martin in Yuanshi County" with multiple local departments , revised the construction drawings.Under the premise of not affecting the flood discharge, they protected two relatively large sandbars which became "Sand Martin Island". In order to continue to pay attention to and protect the sand martins, CBCGDF established the Shijiazhuang Sand martin protection area after this incident, and invited Mr. Xing to be the director of the protected area.
Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF said that he is very happy to see that in Hebei, from the public to experts, scholars, enterprises and government authorities, everyone respects nature and develops social economy for a sustainable and better ecological future.
