Occurrence Data of Koelreuteria Paniculata in the Zizhuyuan Park, Beijing Released on Global Biodiversity Information Facility

Recently, the GBIF working group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has uploaded and released the data of Koelreuteria paniculata on the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) platform for public’s reference and download.

The data was provided by Chen Shouyong and Chen Shouyuan, the volunteers of CBCGDF GBIF Working Group, who recorded the Koelreuteria paniculata in the Zizhuyuan Park, Beijing in late August, 2023.

In the time-honored and tranquil Zizhuyuan Park, near the east gate, an ancient Golden Rain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata) stands tall, whose history can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty about 200 years ago.

The Golden Rain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata) can be seen on many streets and alleys in Beijing. It likes ample sunlight and slightly tolerates semi cloudy conditions, and it also has tolerance for cold climates. However, it does not tolerate flooding, so soil selection needs to be taken into account during the cultivation process. The Golden Rain Tree is resistant to drought and barrenness, and has strong adaptability. It often grows in calcareous soils and can even withstand salty and short-term drought environments.

Citizen scientists are important contributors to biodiversity conservation and biodiversity informatics. Through the GBIF data platform, CBCGDF is making efforts to promote public participation in biodiversity conservation.
