Exploring the Way to Increase Corn Productivity with Ecological Agriculture Practice by BCON of CBCGDF | Co-Growing with Weeds

Recently, a reader sent a message to CBCGDF Media and asked: How high is the yield of corn per mu using the ecological agricultural model of “co-growing with weeds”?

“Co-growing with weeds” is an innovative agricultural model that aims to achieve high-yield, high-efficiency, and low-consumption agricultural productivity through rational use of natural ecosystems.

According to the head of the Siyuan Ecological Civilization Site, the Site has achieved a yield of about 300 kilograms of corn per mu in the mountainous area. In 2022, the yield of 400 kilograms of corn per mu was achieved in plain areas. These results were achieved under drought conditions in Shandong Province, and surprisingly, good yields were achieved despite the absence of drought-resistant measures. And under ideal weather conditions, the farm's yield per mu in the plains can even reach 450-550 kilograms.

So, what makes the ecological agriculture model of "co-growing with weeds" so successful? First of all, this model makes full use of the natural ecosystem. By optimizing the planting structure, reasonably matching corn and weeds, and using their different ecological niches, a pattern of ecological complementarity and symbiosis and co-prosperity has been formed. It not only reduces the exploitation of soil nutrients that may be caused by the continuous planting of a single crop, but also effectively inhibits the breeding of diseases and insect pests, reduces the use of pesticides, and thus reduces environmental pollution.

During the severe drought in Shandong in 2022, this planting model has verified the potential of coping with drought; and the typhoons in 2023 will once again verify the potential of this planting model.
