The data was provided by Mr. HANG Dequan, the volunteer of CBCGDF Conservation Area, who observed and recorded the Pseudothemis zonata around the Slender West Lake in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province on Aug 13th, 2023.
The Pseudothemis zonata (Pied Skimmer) is a commonly seen medium-sized dragonfly, they are found in reed marshes during summer. Part of its abdomen (on the third and fourth segments) is white in males but yellowish white in females. It looks like their abdomens are taped with white or creamy white ribbons.
Citizen scientists are important contributors to biodiversity conservation and biodiversity informatics. Through the GBIF data platform, CBCGDF is making efforts to promote public participation in biodiversity conservation.
