Prof. Jorgen Randers to Visit China and Deliver Lecture in Beijing
On September 1, 2023, Professor Jorgen Randers will take the stage in Beijing, China, to deliver a highly anticipated lecture titled "Global Development Towards 2060 and China's Role." This lecture is poised to provide insight into the future trajectory of global development, with a particular focus on China's pivotal role. The invitation for Professor Randers to visit China comes from the Development Research Center of the State Council (DRC).
During his stay in China, Professor Randers will also preside over the member assembly of the China Chapter of the Club of Rome, an influential international thinktank that engages in discussions regarding global challenges and sustainability. This assembly is set to convene in Beijing.
Professor Randers, recognized for his profound expertise in areas encompassing the environment, sustainable development, and future trends, is widely acknowledged as a scholar of considerable influence. His lecture and chairmanship at the China CoR assembly provide a valuable platform for the members of the China Chapter to delve into the pathways of global development and the role China plays in advancing this process.
Jorgen Randers (born 1945) is professor emeritus of climate strategy at the BI Norwegian Business School. His field is the global future, especially issues related to climate, energy, and sustainability. Professor Randers lectures and provides advice all over the world, including China since 2006.
He has spent one third of his life in academia, one third in business, and one third in the NGO world. He was president of BI Norwegian Business School 1981-89, and Deputy Director general of WWF International 1994-99. He has been the chair of three Norwegian banks and non-executive member of numerous corporate boards. He is a full member of the Club of Rome. He is also a senior advisor to the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF).
Professor Randers has written many papers and books, starting with co-authoring The Limits to Growth in 1972. His recent writings include 2052 – A Global Forecast for the Next Forty Years in 2012, and Transformation is feasible! with Johan Rockstrøm and others in 2018. His most recent book is Earth for All (S Dixon-Decleve et al. 2022), which has been translated into Chinese and published by China Translation Publishing House in 2023.
The forthcoming lecture by Professor Randers is poised not only to capture the attention of scholars and professionals both domestically and internationally, but also to prompt contemplation on how to formulate sustainable development strategies in the face of future uncertainties.
