People Should Be in Awe of Nature! Thoughts on the Incident of Tourists Bitten by Unidentified Creatures in Qiaogang Bathing Beach, Beihai, Guangxi

On August 16, 2023, the incident of "Many tourists bitten by unknown creatures in Qiaogang Bathing Beach, Beihai, Guangxi" went viral. It is reported that dozens of tourists were suddenly bitten by unknown creatures while swimming in the sea. Live footage showed that many tourists were bitten on their legs or feet, dripping with blood. On August 17, the Qiaogang Bathing Beach Management Office issued a notice stating that some tourists were bitten by unknown fishes, and the specific cause is being investigated. At present, Qiaogang Bathing Beach has been temporarily closed, and all tourists have been evacuated.

Looking back, in fact, it is not uncommon for people on vacation to be bitten by fish in the beach. For example, recently, tourists were bitten by unknown creatures in the waters around Mallorca in the Mediterranean region. According to experts, this may be due to warmer sea temperatures, causing fish to become hungrier.

Although it is not clear what marine organisms caused the biting incident at Qiaogang Bathing Beach in Beihai, Guangxi, the people who grew up in the city, who grew up in the education of fairy tales such as "The Mermaid", often lack vigilance against the dangers of nature. Forests are dangerous, and oceans are dangerous. For nature, we should maintain a minimum of awe and guard against possible risks.
