CBCGDF Expert SHEN Yihang: Mobile Phones, Needles, and Beverage Boxes Were Taken Out of the Belly of a Big Fish in Guangxi Province

On August 29, 2024, a news report in Guangxi said: A large amount of human-discarded garbage, and even a smartphone, was hidden in the belly of a big fish! This incident focused people's attention on the increasingly serious problem of marine pollution.

From common beverage bottles and snack boxes to shocking needles and smartphones, these items vary in size and type. These wastes (disposable packaging, plastic waste, and even electronic products) that should have been properly handled have now become "meals" for marine life. It is undoubtedly a blasphemy to nature that living lives have become "trash cans" where humans wantonly discard garbage.

This incident sounded the alarm for us: littering and arbitrarily disposing of waste may seem easy and casual, but the damage to the environment is far-reaching and lasting. Each of our daily behaviors may have irreversible effects on the environment. The pollution of oceans and wetlands is not a distant thing, but a process that each of us is participating in.
