CBCGDF Gears Up for IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is actively preparing to participate in the upcoming IUCN World Conservation Congress. As a dedicated environmental group based in Beijing, the CBCGDF will be joining global conservation leaders and experts at this prestigious event.

The IUCN World Conservation Congress, held every four years, provides a unique platform for the world's leading conservation experts, policymakers, and civil society organizations to come together and discuss pressing environmental challenges. The Congress serves as a catalyst for collaborative action and the development of innovative solutions to conserve biodiversity and protect our planet.

The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has maintained a high level of engagement in the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC). Previously, the Foundation actively participated in the 2016 Hawaii WCC and the 2021 Marseille WCC, and RCFs. At these congresses, CBCGDF not only actively participated in various agendas but also took the initiative to launch and endorse multiple motions, and exercised its voting rights.

At the 2021 IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC), a CBCGDF representative joined the "Friends of the Chair" mechanism of the 7th World Conservation Congress and participated in the drafting of the Marseille Manifesto.

Despite limited resources in recent years, CBCGDF has actively supported other members in the Union, including providing financial assistance to several organizations that were unable to pay their IUCN membership dues.

CBCGDF has consistently monitored global environmental governance issues, including actively reporting on the efforts of the IUCN and its various commissions. In the Chinese-speaking world, a significant portion of information about the IUCN can be attributed to CBCGDF Media, particularly its WeChat account "Ocean and Wetlands" (OceanWetlands).

With the support of the World Protected Areas Programme (WPCA), CBCGDF translated the Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) Guidelines into Chinese. This Chinese version has significantly contributed to the development of China's protected area system and promoted biodiversity conservation efforts among Chinese civil society organizations, thereby making a substantial contribution to achieving the 30x30 target of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). CBCGDF has been an active supporter in the development of IUCN's 20-year strategic vision. Linda Wong serves as a member of the IUCN Intersessional Council Working Group tasked with creating this new vision.

As multiple environmental crises converge and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) is implemented, CBCGDF expects the upcming WCC 2025 to bring together diverse perspectives and strengthen international cooperation to jointly address climate change and ecological challenges, providing new ideas and solutions for global biodiversity conservation.
