Suihua Fishery Protection Action: CBCGDF Volunteers Jointly Clear 12 Illegal Nets | CBCGDF CCAfa

Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) is a global biodiversity solution designed to mitigate the rapid loss of biodiversity through people-centered approaches. As an innovative initiative for biodiversity conservation in the era of ecological civilization, "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood" is a people-engaged solution, encouraging active contributions from the public in reducing biodiversity footprints in daily life, engaging in nature conservation, and actively contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As of Jan 2024, over 210 community conservation areas have been established to carry out Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON). BCON)" has been recognized as one of the global solutions for nature at the 2023 Paris Peace Forum.

On September 4, 2024, volunteers from the Suihua Wetland Conservation Area of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) assisted the fishery law enforcement personnel of the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Beilin District, Suihua City, and together with volunteers from various parties, jointly carried out patrol in the waters around Qinjia Bridge in Beilin District, Suihua City and Hulan River Bridge on the south bank of Wangkui County.

Near Qinjia Bridge, the patrol team cleared a total of 12 illegally laid ground cages in the river, including 10 10-meter-long and 2 30-meter-long ones, and rescued and released dozens of kilograms of fish.

It is worth noting that this joint action found that in the waters around Hulan River Bridge, due to the frequent release of fish recently and most of the fish released were loaches, which attracted illegal fishermen. This phenomenon reminds us that although releasing fish is a good deed, we should avoid blind release and the ecological imbalance and subsequent problems that may be caused.

At the same time, volunteers call on all sectors of society to pay attention to and actively participate in ecological protection, and realize the beautiful vision of harmonious coexistence between human and nature.
