Great to hear 7 rescued Oriental white storks back to nature! A best practice of CBCGDF's BCON | Yancheng, Jiangsu

On the morning of July 12,  staff & birds-lovers from State Grid Yancheng Power Supply Company & Yancheng Wetland Museum Park wild bird rescue station (Jiangsu) successfully help seven Oriental white storks rescued this year back to nature.

The area around the Dongtai seawall in Dafeng District, with its intact wetland habitat and abundant fish and other aquatic organisms, is an ideal environment for the Oriental White Stork to roost.

Three of them, were installed with a tracking ring with positioning function, in order to understand its natural migration pattern and activity habits after release. This is the second time that Yancheng City has installed positioning tracking devices on the rescued Oriental White Storks when releasing them.

From 2021, Yancheng City Power Supply Company will join the official "Migratory Bird Lifeline" project to set up a file for these Oriental White Storks and strengthen the daily patrol and protection.

According to the latest statistics, as many as 108 nests of Oriental white storks have settled down in Yancheng City, and as many as 229 Oriental white stork chicks have been successfully hatched in recent years.

The rescue-and-release action, perfectly embodying CBCGDF's advocate——Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON), not only contributed to the protection of migratory birds and the sustainable development of the ecological environment, but also highlighted that the concept of ecological protection is gradually becoming the consensus and action of all sectors of society.

Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON) is a global biodiversity solution initiated by CBCGDF's Jinfeng Zhou which's designed to mitigate the rapid loss of biodiversity through people-centered approaches. As an innovative initiative for biodiversity conservation in the era of ecological civilization, "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood" is a people-engaged solution, encouraging active contributions from the public in reducing biodiversity footprints in daily life, engaging in nature conservation, and actively contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As of Jan 2024, over 210 community conservation areas have been established to carry out "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood" (BCON). BCON has been recognized as one of the global solutions for nature at the 2023 Paris Peace Forum.
