ZHOU Jinfeng Discussed with Teresa Cendrowska, Vice President of ASTM International on Bio-based Testing and Certification to Jointly Address Climate Change

At 21:00 on the evening of September 3, 2024, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), held talks online with Ms. Teresa Cendrowska, Vice President of Global Cooperation Affairs of ASTM International, discussing the future cooperation between the two parties in bio-based material testing standards.

ASTM International is an internationally renowned standardization organization, especially in the field of materials. Dr. ZHOU introduced to Ms. Teresa Cendrowska the efforts of CBCGDF in the field of biodiversity at home and abroad, the active participation of CBCGDF in the relevant work of biodiversity and green development standards, and the work of CBCGDF in global environmental governance.

Since 2016, CBCGDF Standards Working Committee has successively issued more than ten group standards in the field of biodiversity conservation and green development through independent research & development and cooperation, and promoted the compilation, pilot demonstration and promotion and application of group standards in related fields.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng focused on the "Carbon Neutral Industry Development and Innovation Committee" (CNC), which was jointly initiated by CBCGDF, Chinese Society of Technology Economics, China Association for Standardization, China Association of Environmental Protection Industry, China Association of Circular Economy, University of International Business and Economics, Sinopec Carbon Industry Technology Co.,Ltd, China Senior Professors Association, China Association of Private Technology Entrepreneurs, WAOSD, Silicon Valley Innovation and Entrepreneuship Forum and Global Green Union.

The CNC strives to become the most cutting-edge, professional, and authoritative high-end think tank in the field of carbon neutrality industry. It effectively integrates resources, promotes technological innovation and industrial upgrading, and does a good job in responding to climate change from eight aspects, including promoting technology sharing and cooperation, precise accounting and application, international cooperation and mutual recognition, standard system construction, low-carbon technology promotion, multi-dimensional low-carbon exchanges, data collaboration and sharing, and industry influence enhancement.

As the global climate becomes increasingly warmer and extreme weather occurs frequently, the development of a low-carbon economy and the encouragement of the development of biomass products are of great significance to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the plastic industry's dependence on oil, and promoting the development of various industries. In China, many companies have begun to use bio-based materials to replace traditional fossil fuel plastic products, and renewability and environmental friendliness are the biggest characteristics of bio-based products. Compared with traditional products derived from fossil fuels, bio-based products have lower carbon emissions, better environmental performance and higher sustainability. CBCGDF hopes to establish relevant standards to support enterprises in promoting the use of bio-based materials, thereby contributing to addressing global climate change and global environmental governance.

Ms. Teresa Cendrowska expressed her support for CBCGDF's work on biodiversity, carbon neutrality and carbon capture, and will actively discuss with relevant entities, legal departments, sales and marketing departments regarding the next step of cooperation with CBCGDF, and looks forward to working together with CBCGDF to address climate and biodiversity issues.
