Signs of Large Number of Black Bear Activities Found in Fenghuang Mountain, Wuchang | CBCGDF CCAfa

Recently, volunteers from the Wuchang Phoenix Mountain Black Bear Conservation Area of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation launched a new round of patrol operations. During this operation, the volunteers were pleasantly surprised to find multiple signs of black bear activity, which also indirectly proved the health and stability of the local ecosystem.

This patrol was carried out in autumn, when some fruits on the mountain are about to mature, providing a rich source of food for wild animals such as black bears. Black bears will also choose to go down the mountain to forage for food at this time, so this is the right time for patrol. During the patrol, volunteers traveled through the dense forest trails, carefully surveyed the black bears' activity areas, and recorded many vivid scenes.

During the patrol, volunteers found a wood pile hollowed out by a black bear, with tiny wood chips scattered around, showing obvious signs of the black bear feeding. Generally, black bears use their strong front paws to flexibly search for delicacies such as ants or tree worms in the rotten wood piles. As we all know, black bears are omnivores with a very wide diet, and can digest almost all kinds of food in the forest. This foraging behavior is also a reflection of their strong adaptability.

The volunteers also found some interesting phenomena, for example: the places where black bears feed and move frequently are mostly on the middle slope, in the mixed zone of artificial forests and original secondary forests. "This is also the cleverness of black bears. The distance between going up and down the mountain is equal, which is convenient for feeding and can ensure their own safety." The volunteer said with a smile. During this patrol operation, the volunteers observed a large number of signs of black bear activities and accumulated a large amount of data on black bear activities, which provided strong support for subsequent black bear protection research.

Volunteers at the Wuchang Phoenix Mountain Black Bear Conservation Area said that they will continue to increase patrol efforts and strengthen cooperation with all sectors of society to jointly promote local black bear protection to a new level. They firmly believe that with the joint efforts of everyone and the support and help from all sectors of society, they will be able to protect this green mountain and water.
