James A.F. Wadham: Action Is More Important | Eco-civilization and Sustainable Development Forum

The Eco-cvilization and Sustainable Development Forum was held on September 21, 2024 at the Cheung On Tak Lecture Theatre. This forum is jointly organized by the World Sustainable Development Institute, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). During the forum, Mr. James A.F. Wadham, President of Ave Fenix Philanthropy Group delivered a keynote speech with the title of “Engaging Philanthropy as a Development Partner with Universities and Civil Society”.

He said that although people generally recognize the importance of sustainability, it is often difficult for them to achieve ideal results in practical actions. He emphasized that the practice and challenges of environmental protection in daily life, taking wood construction and plastic waste as examples. He also mentioned the role of enterprises in environmental protection actions and criticized some companies for wasting resources under the guise of environmental protection. In addition, he emphasized the importance of community participation and cultural sensitivity in sustainable development projects by sharing his work experience in Saint Lucia.

 

He also discussed the role of philanthropy in driving social and environmental change, as well as how to achieve greater impact through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Finally, he emphasized the importance of action and called on people to not only understand the necessity of environmental protection, but also achieve outcomes through practical actions.
