We Should Attach Great Importance to the Comprehensiveness of Wetland Investigation and Monitoring | ZHOU Talks about the Fourth Civilization (Lecture 305)

Wetland investigation and monitoring are important foundations for wetland scientific research and can provide scientific basis and support for wetland protection and management. Recently, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, Secretary General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), and Academician of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences, expressed his views on wetland investigation and monitoring.

There are various types of wetlands in my country. To carry out wetland  investigation and monitoring, it is necessary to formulate a wetland  investigation and monitoring plan based on wetland protection goals and specific project task requirements according to the wetland type to ensure the scientificity and comprehensiveness of the  investigation and monitoring.

For wetland nature reserves, in order to protect the diversity of birds, it is not enough to only carry out routine bird  investigations and monitoring. The bird habitat environment, including wetland water environment, wetland vegetation, aquatic organisms, landscape pattern changes and other elements should be included in the scope of wetland  investigation and monitoring, because these are the main body of wetland to play its ecological function and are important factors related to the survival and reproduction of water birds.

Wetland protection is a systematic project. Routine wetland  investigation and monitoring is an important part of wetland protection and management, and is also the basis for scientific wetland protection. It is recommended that wetland nature reserve management departments strengthen departmental cooperation and sharing to make wetland  investigation and monitoring work more scientific and comprehensive.
