Let’s Build a Black Bear Protection Line Together | CBCGDF Volunteers in Action
On September 21, a group of four volunteers from the Harbin Black Bear Rescue Center of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), wearing CBCGDF logo vests, traveled more than 500 kilometers along the Songhua River to Bayan County and its subordinate Xinglong Town and Heishan Town to carry out black bear protection publicity and education activities. At the same time, they also carried out a plastic collection charity activity in the Hulan District section on the left bank of the Songhua River.
During the event, Guo Yuhong, a teacher at Harbin Tieling Primary School, led her six-year-old daughter to participate in the charity event, educating her child to be determined to protect the environment and biodiversity from an early age, and gave her a vivid and touching environmental protection practice lesson. Seeing the children carefully picking up plastic waste, especially distributing black bear protection publicity materials and environmental protection gift bags, they could not be stopped and shouted loudly: "Uncles and aunts, protecting forests and black bears is everyone's responsibility."
Practice has proved that it is feasible to start environmental education and black bear protection from childhood. As educators, we should look to the future, connect school classes with natural environment classes, and organize more children and parents to participate in social practice of environmental protection and black bear protection public welfare activities. We should make good courseware, teach good environmental protection and black bear protection classes, and deeply root the concept of biodiversity protection and green development in children's hearts.
This charity event was guided by the CBCGDF Black Bear Protection Team. Not long ago, the online platform posted clues about the activities of black bears in the forest area of Xinglong Town, Bayan County. Preliminary investigations show that the forest area of Xinglong Town, Bayan County belongs to the Lesser Khingan Mountains and borders the forest area of Tieli District, Yichun City. After investigations by volunteers on some local villagers and towns, it was found that black bears had appeared there many years ago, but no encounters between humans and bears have been heard recently.
Although the in-depth investigation on that day could not be completed as expected due to natural conditions, it also strengthened the determination of the volunteers. They know that the road to black bear protection is long and difficult, but every step is crucial, and every attempt and effort is a step towards a better and more harmonious natural ecology.
