Wind Power Hurts the Wings, 32 Injured Relict Gulls Transferred to the Daqinghe Rescue Station|CBCGDF CCAfa

The temperature in northern China has dropped rapidly. According to the weather forecast, the temperature in Kangbao County, Hebei Province will drop to zero degrees by the end of this week. The sudden cold weather has accelerated the migration of birds.

On September 3, 2024, the wildlife rescue agency in Kangbao County, Hebei Province, sent a batch of injured relict gulls to the Daqinghe Rescue Station in Tangshan, Hebei Province, which is located in the Bohai Bay area and is also the water bird Conversation area of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF).

There are a total of 32 injured Relict Gulls, which will spend the winter at the Daqinghe Rescue Station this year.

As the weather gets colder, the Relict Gulls began their southward migration at the end of August. These injured gulls were initially left at the local rescue organization. If the weather gets colder, it would be difficult for the Relict Gulls to survive the winter in their original breeding grounds, so they were sent here. The person in charge said that this is not the first year they have accepted injured Relict Gulls from the Kangbao County rescue organization. The earliest rescue of these injured birds started in 2018, and it has been six years now.

The Relict Gull is listed as a first-class protected wild animal in China. To take good care of these injured Relict Gulls, the person in charge of the Daqinghe Rescue Station has specially prepared nutritious food for them. At the same time, the Daqinghe Rescue Station is also expanding the rescue cage. "After the completion, the rescue cage area of the station will reach about 2000 square meters, which can be used when necessary for injured wild animals. In addition, the outdoor pond will not freeze in winter because of the water circulation function, which can ensure that the rare birds temporarily stranded in the rescue station can survive the winter. After these injured birds recover, they will be released again at an appropriate time.
