On September 14, 2024, the Legal Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation hosted a hybrid symposium titled "Biology, Science Ethics, and Black Bear Conservation". The symposium focused on the highly controversial issue of bear bile farming.

The event brought together a diverse group of experts from academia, wildlife law, industry, and non-profit organizations to discuss the complex intersections of traditional Chinese medicine, animal welfare, and scientific ethics. Participants included representatives from bear bile farms, animal welfare organizations, and academic institutions.

Presentations and discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the scientific basis for bear bile farming, the ethical implications of the practice, and the potential for alternative medicines.
