Standardization Promotes "Antibiotic-free Industry" and the Healthy Development of China's Animal Husbandry

On August 31, 2024, Dr. ZHOU Jinfeng, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), met with Ms. ZHU Xiaoming, member of the CBCGDF Overseas Chinese Federation in Beijing.

At this meeting, the two sides discussed how to promote the market acceptance of antibiotic-free products and the establishment of industry standards through cooperation between the government and the private sectors and the docking of international standards.

In China, antibiotic-free breeding methods are becoming an important direction for the development of animal husbandry, especially in the promotion of the black pig industry. Participants discussed the entire industrial chain of the black pig industry, from breeding to farming to market promotion, and emphasized the importance of antibiotic-free farming methods in improving meat quality and consumer trust.

During the meeting, Dr. ZHOU mentioned the necessity of promoting industry standards and emphasized the creation of a common framework to learn and advance this topic. Dr. ZHOU proposed the establishment of a special fund to integrate resources and provide technical and market support to ensure the sustainable development of the industry.

Although China's antibiotic-free industry faces challenges, by establishing effective industry standards, making rational use of foundation resources, and using modern technology for market promotion and quality control, antibiotic-free farming methods are expected to gain wider recognition and application in domestic and foreign markets. In the future, this will not only increase consumers' trust in food safety, but also promote the sustainable and healthy development of China's animal husbandry industry.
