Prof. Geoffrey Lipman Invited to Deliver a Speech at the CBCGDF’s Side Event of the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4)

The 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) will be held in Antigua and Barbuda from May 27th to 30th, 2024. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) will hold a side event titled "Marine Biodiversity and Sustainable Development of Small Island" at 15:00-18:00 (Beijing time) on May 28th. Prof. Geoffrey Lipman will attend the side event and deliver a speech titled: “Small Island Developing States Tourism on the Brink”.

Prof. Geoffrey Lipman is Co-founder & President of SUNx Malta, President of ICTP (International Council of Tourism Partners), Chair greenearth.travel, member of Club of Rome-EU. After leadership positions in IATA, WTTC and UNWTO, he is leading the SUN Program, designed to bring green growth to travel destinations.

Prof. Geoffrey Lipman emphasizes the importance and feasibility of achieving 'Climate Justice' in tourism, particularly for the Least Developed States (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) most vulnerable to climate change. He underscores the historical precedence of advocating for justice for the most vulnerable in environmental movements. Lipman's organization, SUNx Malta, is actively working to implement Climate Justice in tourism through initiatives like providing scholarships for students from LDCs and SIDS, promoting Climate Friendly Travel (CFT), and demanding increased funding for tourism adaptation alongside prioritized Sustainable Aviation Fuel for small islands heavily reliant on aviation. Lipman argues that these actions are not only morally right but also urgent and achievable, urging others to join their efforts in promoting Climate Friendly Travel.
