CBCGDF Volunteers Record the National Second-Level Protected Insect, Carabus lafossei

Recently, in Yuhang District, Hangzhou, together with her students, Ms. Yalun, a volunteer from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) found a colorful and unique insect in an outdoor biodiversity course.

Yalun took photos of the beetle and tried to find out its species through online identification tools. Surprisingly, after comparison, the beetle turned out to be a national second-level protected wild species - the ground beetle(Carabus lafossei ).

The beetle is a rare insect, and its unique appearance and biological characteristics have extremely high research value in the field of entomology. Due to changes in the ecological environment and the impact of human activities, the number of ground beetles has gradually decreased, and it was once difficult to find them in Hangzhou.

The appearance of the ground beetle in Yuhang District not only made the children excited, but also was a strong proof of Hangzhou's ecological protection work, which attracted the attention of CBCGDF volunteers to the local ecological protection work.
