Building Beijing as a Biodiversity Capital and Protecting the “Beijing Common Swift” Ecological Name Card

In recent years, Beijing's biodiversity conservation efforts have achieved remarkable results with the sustained efforts of Beijing's ecological and environmental departments, the community, and the public's Biodiversity Conservation in Neighborhoods (BCON).

Since 2020, Beijing has recorded 6,895 species, including 73 natural and semi-natural ecosystem types, and 26 alien invasive species. This shows Beijing's rich biological resources.

In 2023, Beijing's Ecological Environment Quality Index (EI) was 70.8, the quality of ecosystems remained stable, and the green visibility rate of the city reached 26.96%.

Continuous ecological restoration has optimized the ecosystem composition and structure, and the prevention and control of alien invasive species have protected native species.

Multi-party cooperation in researching the migration of the rainbow swallow has protected the iconic species of the Beijing rainbow swallow.

In 2023, 24 species of butterflies and 29 species of dragonflies were recorded in central Beijing, reflecting a favourable ecological environment.

Public participation has increased, and neighbourhood biodiversity conservation advocates for reducing damage to the natural environment and promoting harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
