On May 23, 2024, two night fishing enthusiasts in their thirties accidentally fell into b Gaoyou Lake in Gaoyou City, Jiangsu Province. One died and the other is missing.

According to eyewitnesses, the huge waves in Gaoyou Lake were the main cause of the tragedy. The two went fishing in the lake in a small boat, but unexpected storms caused them to fall into the water. The local police have been involved in the investigation, and this incident has once again raised people's attention to the safety of Gaoyou waters.

In fact, this is not the first time a fishing accident occurred in Gaoyou Lake. The editor of CBCGDF OceanWetlands discovered that in early May 2023, an illegal fishing accident occurred in Gaoyou Lake. The incident resulted in one person drowning and the whereabouts of another person unknown. Two brothers from Guoji, Gaoyou City drove a small boat into the prohibited waters and tried to use fishing nets to fish illegally. However, an accident happened and they fell into the lake and drowned. After nearby residents learned of the situation, they immediately went to search and rescue, but strong winds blew on the lake at that time, which made the search and rescue work difficult.

Life is most important. The safety hazards of night fishing on the lake cannot be ignored. Sudden changes in weather or geographical factors may suddenly cause wind and waves in lakes. The above-mentioned incidents have all sounded the alarm. We should respect nature, pay more attention to water safety, and protect ourselves.
