CBCGDF CCAfa Volunteers Found the Suihua Water Source Polluted When Patrolling
Recently, volunteers from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Wetland Community Conservation Area(CCAfa) in Suihua City carried out patrol operations in the Hulan River Surface Water Drinking Water Source Protection Area in Beilin District, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province.
During the patrol, CBCGDF CCAfa volunteers found many signs of human activities near the water source, such as farmland farming, grazing cattle and sheep, etc.; randomly discarded plastic bags, plastic bottles, pesticide bottles and other garbage appeared on the shore of the water source; there were in the water illegal nets such as ground cage nets and gown nets were thrown into the area; during patrols, they also found people playing, camping, fishing, etc. nearby.
The drinking water source protection zone is equipped with prompt signs, warning signs and publicity boards. The water source is a first-level protection zone with a total length of 5.37km. Volunteers picked up garbage along the way, cleaned ground cage nets, etc., and did their part to protect water sources. Volunteers have reported the pollution problems and existing risks found in the water source during this patrol to the local government departments and also explained the situation to the municipal hotline (12345).
Volunteers said, "Although the water quality in the water source is not obviously polluted, or has reached a state of pollution, the chaos in the water source puts it at risk of contamination."
It is hoped that relevant departments can take preventive measures, such as adding iron fences on the shore of water sources to prevent idlers from entering and exiting drinking water source protection areas at will, so as to better protect the water sources that the citizens of Beilin District rely on for survival.
