Kunming Biodiversity Fund Launched on May 28 2024

Under the leadership of China, the world adopted the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). In 2021, China pledged 1.5 billion yuan (over $210 million) to establish the fund.

On May 28, 2024, Kunming Biodiversity Fund was launched, when China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment signed cooperative agreements with the UN Environment Program and the UN Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office.

The fund will provide free assistance in the form of financial, technical and capacity support for developing countries to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework under the principles of multilateralism and international operations.

Its first projects is expected to be launched this year ahead of the CBD COP16.
