National Survey for Forest, Grassland, and Wetland Desertification: Report Illegal and Sabotage Activities

On May 8, the kick-off meeting for the national forest, grassland and wetland desertification census was held. This census added a new survey on desertification, following the national survey and monitoring of forests, grasslands and wetlands in 2023, which is an innovative initiative that recognizes the importance of forests, grasslands, wetlands and deserts as natural resources.

Desertification is a land degradation problem caused by climate change and human activities, and China is one of the countries most seriously affected by desertification, which seriously affects the production and life of the population. Carrying out a desertification census of forests, grasslands and wetlands will help to accurately grasp the resources of forests, grasslands and wetlands in China and their ecological conditions, objectively evaluate the effectiveness of ecological protection and restoration in the past, to strengthen the integrated protection and systematic management of mountains, waters, forests, lakes, grasses and sands and improve the national ecological environment.

The Legal Working Committee of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) calls on everyone to protect forests, grasslands, wetlands and deserts and welcomes the reporting of illegal and destructive behaviours.
