Image
In response to  “ Planet vs. Plastics ”  on Earth Day 2024, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) on Reduce and Pick-Up Plastics Working Group has launched the  “ Peoples vs. Plastics ”  project. The project aims to examine the problem of plastic waste pollution from multiple perspectives, and to rally the power of society, especially the power of the silent scavengers, who play an important role in the  “ Peoples vs. Plastics ”  action. Credit: CBCGDF   In the 139th issue of Zhou Talks about Fourth Civilization, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng emphasized his respect for urban waste pickers. They earn their lives through hard labour, promote waste recycling, and are an important part of maintaining a healthy and clean city.   From the perspective of waste pickers, it is possible to understand their work situation and income level. CBCGDF BCON Working Group Proposed Suggestions for the Yancheng City Greening Regulations

Image
In early April 2024, the Yancheng Natural Resources and Planning Bureau issued an announcement on soliciting public opinions on the Yancheng Greening Regulations (Draft Amendment) (Draft for Comments). The BCON Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation actively responded to the call, organized discussions, and actively served scientific decision-making. After careful study, the following two suggestions are put forward for reference.   1. It is recommended that tree planting should take biodiversity into consideration, ensure diverse tree species, give priority to native tree species, and be wildlife-friendly.   2.  It is recommended that wilderness/weeds/native vegetation should also be included in the calculation of vegetation coverage.   O riginal Chinese Article:   https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/GymPlURFHQOxHAqn-1JVog Translator: Maggie Editor: Maggie Checked by: YUJIE       Contact: v 1...

CBCGDF Volunteers Record the National Second-Level Protected Insect, Carabus lafossei

Image
Recently, in Yuhang District, Hangzhou, together with her students , Ms. Yalun , a volunteer from the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) found  a colorful and unique insect in an outdoor biodiversity course. Yalun took photo s  of the beetle and tried to find out its species through online identification tools. Surprisingly, after comparison, the beetle turned out to be a national second-level protected wild species - the ground beetle ( Carabus lafossei   ) . The beetle is a rare insect, and its unique appearance and biological characteristics have extremely high research value in the field of entomology. Due to changes in the ecological environment and the impact of human activities, the number of ground beetles has gradually decreased, and it was once difficult to find them in Hangzhou. The appearance of the ground beetle in Yuhang District not only made the children excited, but also was a strong proof of Hangzhou's ecological pr...
