The “30x30 Guide” Supported by CBCGDF Officially Released for Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal GBF

Recently, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) is very honored to support the “30x30: A Guide to Inclusive, Equitable and Effective Implementation of Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF)”. This Guide is a companion piece with the report “Best Practice in Delivering the 30x30 Target” and an online toolkit to support implementation of Target 3, 30x30 Solutions.

Known as the “30x30 target”, Target 3 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework commits to conserve 30% of terrestrial, inland water, coastal and marine areas by 2030, “through ecologically representative, well-connected and equitably governed systems of protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures, recognizing indigenous and traditional territories.”

The development of this important guide was achieved through extensive collaborative efforts with the support of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Secretariat. The formulation of this guide involves extensive cooperation and consultation, aiming at achieving the goal of biodiversity protection. Before the research work began, careful consultation and discussion with experts were conducted. Under the guidance of consulting groups of six organizations, a five-member editorial team drafted a preliminary version, which was widely shared twice and received more than 2,000 comments. Through the efforts of international cooperation, it will provide valuable opinions and suggestions for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The International Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation has made a series of contributions to help release the report. It is our hope that this guide can provide strong support for biodiversity protection and sustainable development.
