H.E. Mr. Moin ul Haque: Our Hope for a Greener Future Is Not Gone | ICCOP 2023 by CBCGDF

China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS 2023) was successfully held in Beijing from September 2 to September 6, 2023. And China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) organized three conferences on environmental services, including the ICCOP 2023 with the theme of “Dual Carbon Goals and Environmental Services”. ICCOP 2023 was held in National Indoor Stadium on September 3, and H.E. Mr. Moin ul Haque, the Ambassador of Pakistan to China, addressed the conference through video at invitation. His brilliant speech is as follows:

Respected leaders, Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen:

Good morning. It is my immense pleasure to address the International Climate Conference of People Forum, being held today on a very important subject of Environment Protection and Carbon Neutrality Goals. I commend China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation for hosting this very important event with the support of China International Fair for Trade in Services. Here I would also like to acknowledge the important role of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation on the invaluable services in green development. The foundation, with its passion for green and sustainable development, also step forward proactively after the recent unprecedented floods in Pakistan late last year. And we thank all the Chinese Government and all the Chinese departments and institutions for this very generous support.

Ladies and gentlemen:

The spectre of climate change is looming upon us, from unprecedented floods to wildfires, to heat waves and cold waves all over the world. We are getting the repetitive messages from nature to correct our course. These natural disasters are the real manifestation of the loss and destruction that climate change can bring to our lives and future, a strong message to the skeptics, a stop reminder to the world community about our failures and a clarion call for action.

However, our hope is not gone. We have seen many successful examples, the beautiful city of Beijing being one. I’m told that around a decade ago, Beijing was a different city and seeing a clear blue sky used to be a luxury. But now, I look at Beijing and its beautiful clear skies and I’m impressed and inspired by Chinese progress in climate action.

China is leading the course of developing countries in climate change. The goals of reaching carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060 are indeed being taken very seriously. And we have been told that these goals could be achieved before their target years. The vision of a prosperous, clean and beautiful world resonates with our domestic initiatives in Pakistan. The theme of today’s forum is also related to a greener future, innovations and joint cooperation.

Ladies and gentlemen:

Despite being a low carbon emitter and vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan has been on the forefront to deepen international cooperation for the mitigation of climate change. Pakistan is a firm proponent of proactive climate change action. At home, we have taken new policy measures for a green and clean Pakistan. We are also devising strategies to lessen our reliance on fossil fuels and their replacement with clean and renewable energy. We hope that our efforts will contribute to preventing, halting and reversing the degradation of environment in Pakistan and region.

Being a close friend and a strategic partner of China, Pakistan has been collaborating very closely with China and stands ready to further strengthen this cooperation. Last year, our two countries launched a China-Pakistan Green Corridor, the modalities of which are being finalized. The two countries are very cognizant of our environmental protection responsibilities, for projects being undertaken under the scope of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as well.

Ladies and gentlemen:

Let us take collective steps for preserving the diversity of both human civilization and life on earth. In this regard, I hope today’s forum would lead to a number of important conclusions and discussions regarding this very pertinent and timely topic. I wish this forum a great success.

I thank you all.
