CBCGDF Submitted 5 Suggestions to Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on "Requirements for Restricting Excessive Packaging of Goods Food and Cosmetics" National Standard No. 2 Amendment (Draft for Comments)

On August 18, 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology publicly solicited opinions from the public on the "Requirements for Restricting Excessive Packaging of Goods Food and Cosmetics" National Standard No. 2 Amendment (Draft for Comments).

In 2022, the Research Department of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) proposed the amendment to the "Requirements for Restricting Excessive Packaging of Goods Food and Cosmetics" National Standard No. 1 Amendment (Draft for Comments).CBCGDF Deputy Secretary-General was invited to participate in the review meeting on this national standard as an expert member of the review committee.

In this solicitation for opinions, CBCGDF Research Department organized relevant personnel to conduct careful research and analysis from multiple perspectives, put forward five suggestions as follows, and submitted them to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

1. Grain and its processed products, tea, moon cakes and rice dumplings should not exceed two layers, and other commodities should not exceed three layers.

2. The packaging costs of the two layers should be controlled within 10%, and other product packaging costs should be controlled within 15%.

3. Precious metals, mahogany and other valuable materials should not be used in the packaging of moon cakes, rice dumplings and tea.

4. The total mass of tea products should not be greater than 4 times the mass of the tea inside.

5. It is recommended that the product label/instructions indicate that this packaging can be recycled, please do not throw it away casually.

CBCGDF will continue to follow up on the revision process of the draft and actively provide support.
