CBCGDF Proposed to Establish a “Water and Climate Crisis Museum” in Flood-stricken Lingxi Scenic Area, Beijing
Lingxi Scenic Area, located in Lingjiao Village, Miaofengshan Town, Mentougou District of Beijing is famous for its beautiful scenery, clean environment and rich animal and plant resources. However, Typhoon Doksuri brought extremely heavy rainfall to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, which led to extraordinary floods in Fangshan and Mentougou in the west of Beijing. During the period from the end of July to the beginning of August, 2023, Beijing was stricken by catastrophic floods, and 77% of the population in this area was affected. Lingxi Scenic Area suffered serious damage and great economic and property losses. This disaster also seriously affected the life and livelihood of the local residents. So, what severe impact will global climate change have on the sustainable economic and social development in the next few years or decades? What can we do to avoid repeating the same mistakes and better prepare for climate change?
We should truly record this history and learn from it, so as to prevent our future generations from repeating the same mistakes. Therefore, in order to improve the public understanding of climate change, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) decided to take this crisis as an opportunity to set up a museum themed on water and climate crisis which is named as “Water and Climate Emergency Museum of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation”. This museum will show the impacts and challenges brought by climate change in various forms, and advocate people to pay attention to environmental protection, deeply understand and deal with the climate crisis.
Through the establishment of this museum, CBCGDF hopes to arouse more people’s awareness of environmental protection, encourage everyone to take action in dealing with climate change and water crisis, and create a more favorable environment for future sustainable development. This is not only support for local communities, but also beneficial exploration for global environmental sustainability.
