CBCGDF Expert Frederick Charles Dubee Visits Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences

On September 21, 2023, Professor Frederick Charles Dubee, an expert of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, visited the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Science and exchanged views on soil health and sustainable development.

 


At the meeting, Professor Dubee gave a detailed introduction to the African Soil Strength Program (ASSP), an initiative aimed at improving soil health and fertility in African continent. The Programme is a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving the soil quality in Africa with a focus on developing sustainable solutions to address the challenges faced by farmers due to poor soil health, through research, education and community engagement, the programme aims to promote the use of organic farming practices, reduce the use of unmeasured and unspecified harmful chemicals, and increase crop yields, hopes to contribute towards food security and poverty reduction, biodiversity loss in the region. Through this programme, farmers are provided with resources and trainings on various sustainable land use modules to improve their soil quality, which in turn leads to increased crop yields and better food security.

Experts from Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Science gave speeches on Research and Prospect on Measures for Obstacled Soil Amendment; Soil carbon sequestration under diverse crop rotations and land use changes based on modelling approach; and Soil Restoration in Facility Vegetable Production and Peach Orchard.

Discussions were also conducted on soil improvement, carbon sequestration and emission reduction, biodiversity conservation, and green and sustainable agricultural development.

The Deputy Secretary General and representatives of the International Department of CBCGDF, and more than 10 researchers from the Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences participated in the meeting.
