CBCGDF OceanWetlands Working Group: Rural Domestic Sewage Treatment Should Pay Attention to Protecting Small and Micro Wetlands | BCON
The Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment recently issued a notice publicly soliciting opinions on the Guiding Opinions on Further Promoting Rural Domestic Sewage Treatment. The "OceanWetlands" Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) actively responded to this call, and after careful research and discussion, proposed the following suggestions:
Referring to traditional wisdom, we need to consider leveraging the role of small and micro wetlands and neighborhood biodiversity conservation. In the past, people in many rural areas in the south, poured domestic sewage, garbage, fallen leaves, etc. into the “dangs” – a kind of water puddle for composting. In the coming year, after the water began to flow, dangs resumed its eco-function again, and being used as fertilizer. In fact, dangs are actually small and micro sized wetlands, where there may be aquatic life such as insects and snails, as well as frog eggs and duckweed... all of them are beginning to rejuvenate. This small ecosystem is our traditional culture and contains true biodiversity.
