CBCGDF Youth Representative on-site for the 62nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands (SC62), fully supported by a team in Beijing

The 62nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the Convention on Wetlands (SC62) was held on September 4-8, 2023 at the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands in Gland, Switzerland. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), as an observer to the Convention on Wetlands, has long been committed to the conservation of wetlands and bird biodiversity, and sent representatives to participate in the meeting in Gland, Switzerland.

On September 15, 2023, CBCGDF presented a special certificate (CBCGDF [2023] Ref G167) to the youth members of the delegation to thank them for their contribution and dedication.

The CBCGDF youth delegates had a great time at the meeting, and the “CBCGDF Back- Team" in Beijing actively participated in the meeting online and provided support to the front line, helping them to make presentations and share good stories of wetland conservation from China.

"CBCGDF Backup Team" stands for "CBCGDF Online Assistance Team", which aims to provide online support to youth delegates on the ground in the field of global environmental governance, in order to enhance the timeliness and effectiveness of their participation and active involvement in relevant issues. At the 2021 World Conservation Congress in Marseille, France, the CBCGDF Backup Team provided critical assistance to delegates on site during day and night shifts, helping youth delegates join the “Friends of the Chair” mechanism at the Marseille Congress, and participating in the drafting of and contributing to the Marseille Declaration. The working mechanism of the "Backup Team" has played a key role in remote support and interaction at international meetings and events in order to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of participation and active involvement in global environmental protection.

The young generation are the future main force of global environmental governance. China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) has long regarded the cultivation of young talents as one of its core areas of work. Initiatives include, but are not limited to, building a global volunteer network of young talents, recommending experts to serve in international organizations in an eclectic manner, actively participating in important global governance platforms and making China's voice heard, recommending Chinese scientists to run for leadership positions in international organizations, and organizing a long-term workshop on capacity-building for global environmental governance, among other things. The opening of delegation slots for young delegates to participate in international conferences is one of these efforts.
