CBCGDF's "People vs. Plastics" Project Takes Action Against Plastic Pollution on China's National Day Holidays

As part of its consistent efforts, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) 's "Reduce & Pickup Plastics" task force worked tirelessly over the weekend to deploy the "People vs. Plastics" project for upcoming National Day celebrations.

September 23-24, 2023, marked the weekend when the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation's (CBCGDF) "Reduce & Pickup Plastics" team went the extra mile to prepare for the "People vs. Plastics" project. The initial plan is to conduct a plastic waste collection campaign along the banks of the Yellow River in Shandong Province of China during the upcoming National Day holidays, spanning from October 1st to 6th. The "People vs. Plastics" initiative aims to categorize waste, compile waste distribution data, and meticulously document details such as packaging brand classification, rankings, sources, and weight measurements. During the weekend, the technical team at CBCGDF deliberated on how to leverage technology for data entry and analysis and will be implementing these technical aspects in the coming days.

Plastic pollution has emerged as a formidable global environmental challenge, with the theme for Earth Day 2024 being "Planet vs. Plastics." CBCGDF's "People vs. Plastics" project seeks to reduce plastic product consumption and alleviate plastic waste pollution in rivers and oceans through plastic reduction campaigns and waste cleanup efforts. The project aims to reduce the volume of plastic waste in China's coastal areas, river basins, and marine environments, thus improving environment and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, emphasized the importance of highlighting the involvement and contributions of the people in garbage collection and beach cleaning activities. He stressed that a "Human-based Solution" (HbS) is the crucial driving force in addressing the rapid loss of biodiversity, climate change, and pollution.

In a world grappling with the consequences of plastic pollution, CBCGDF's "People vs. Plastics" project serves as committment and a call to action, exemplifying the power of collective efforts to combat environmental challenges. As the project unfolds during the National Day holiday celebrations, it promises to make a meaningful impact on reducing plastic waste and safeguarding China's natural treasures.
