UNFCCC COP29 Concludes after Extension
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), was scheduled to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November 2024. After two weeks of arduous negotiations, COP29, which had been extended by over 30 hours, finally concluded on Sunday.
As the observer to UNFCCC, China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) sent the delegation to attend the Conference.
The conference adopted more than 20 decisions to implement the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, resulting in a balanced package of outcomes called the Baku Climate Solidarity Pact.
Agreements were reached on climate finance targets and related arrangements for the period after 2025. These include a target of at least $300 billion per year from developed countries by 2035 and a climate finance target of at least $1.3 trillion per year to support climate action in developing countries.
