Editor-in-Chief of OceanWetlands Invited to Attend Workshop on Market Access for Small-Scale Fisheries in Shanghai

Small-scale fisheries (SSF) account for at least 40% of the global catch (64% in Asia) and employ over 60 million people, representing 90% of the fisheries and aquaculture workforce. SSF play a vital role in providing protein and supporting the livelihoods of coastal and inland communities. Enhancing market access for SSF can boost economic benefits, improve community well-being, and strengthen global food security.

Prof Linda Wong, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) and Editor-in-Chief of OceanWetlands, has been invited to attend the upcoming workshop on "Market Access for Small-Scale Fisheries and the Belt and Road Initiative: Challenges and Prospects" in Shanghai, China.

Scheduled for November 28–29, 2024, this workshop is jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU). The event will bring together representatives from various Asian countries, international organizations, industry stakeholders, and non-governmental organizations to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing small-scale fisheries (SSF) in accessing regional and global markets.

With a focus on sustainable practices and fair trade, the workshop aligns closely with CBCGDF-OceanWetlands's mission to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Representative from CBCGDF will actively participate in the event, learning from the workshop, sharing experiences and best practices with domestic and international colleauges.
