The Illegal Wells Sealed off in Laoting, Tangshan Starts to Pump Water Again? | CBCGDF BASE

Recently, volunteers from the Tangshan Waterbird Conservation Area of CBCGDF once again reported that the illegal wells that had been sealed off by the local government at the end of October this year have started to pump water again.

After investigation, it was found that a large amount of groundwater was extracted in this area to raise sea cucumbers. On September 11, the Guhe Township Government of Laoting County, Tangshan City, ordered the parties to close the illegal wells. On September 23, Guhe Township again urged the parties to close 5 illegal wells.

But the materials sent by the volunteers showed that at the end of October, the Laoting County Water Conservancy Bureau had investigated and dealt with the illegal extraction of groundwater and issued a "Notice of Order to Correct Illegal Behavior". In addition to sealing off five illegal water wells, the "Notice" also states: In view of the fact that the parties have invested more than 30 million yuan in this area and built 27 aquaculture greenhouses, in order to reduce the losses of farmers and the actual need for water for sea cucumber farming, the illegal water wells will be handled in accordance with the law after the farmers have disposed of the existing aquatic products according to the breeding cycle.

This disposal result undoubtedly leaves sufficient room for farmers to tear off the seals again and continue to illegally extract groundwater. The author hopes that the relevant local government departments will urge the relevant illegal acts to be corrected.
