CBCGDF Delegation Will Attend the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia | Pre-departure Meeting Held

On the afternoon of November 18, 2024, the UNCCD COP16 delegation of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held its first pre-departure meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof. WANG Huo, CBCGDF Deputy Secretary-General and Chief of the UNCCD COP16 delegation. At the meeting, the background, current preliminary agenda, and main topics of the UNCCD COP16 were introduced in order to fully prepare the delegation to attend the meeting in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.

The UNCCD COP16 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from December 2 to 13, 2024, themed "Our Land. Our Future". 197 contracting parties around the world will gather together to discuss policies and combat desertification and drought. The UNCCD COP16 is a unique multilateral platform where governments, businesses and civil society come together to address today's challenges for a sustainable future, including the need to reverse land degradation and build resilience to drought. The UNCCD COP16 is expected to be the largest conference of the 197 Parties to the Convention in history, and the first UNCCD COP to be held in the Middle East on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Convention.

As an observer to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, the CBCGDF has formed a delegation and will soon go to Riyadh to attend the conference.
