Wildlife Breeding Turning into a Financial Tool for Accumulating Wealth? | Experts Call for Wildlife Farms to Withdraw from the Stock Market

After 2021, the topic of the shortage of experimental monkeys has been widely discussed, and the price of monkeys has increased tenfold, from over 10,000 yuan to 180,000 yuan. In fact, there are 300,000 experimental monkeys in China, with an annual reproduction of 90,000. In 2020, the maximum usage amount was only 36,000. If we do not consider exports, it is evident that there is a serious surplus in China. Some people promote the shortage of experimental monkeys as a carefully crafted trap aimed at raising the price of monkeys, allowing shareholders of the monkey farm to sell monkeys (up to tens of thousands or even nearly 100,000 yuan each) and company shares at high prices. Some investors can also suddenly buy shares at a low price, thereby gaining huge profits in the transaction.

However, relevant government agencies have approved the low-priced acquisition of a monkey farm by US listed companies. American CRO company Charles River Lab (CRL) has quietly acquired a Chinese monkey farm with a total of 8000 monkeys for a total price of 160 million yuan (23.4 million US dollars), with a unit price of only 20,000 yuan. Does this precisely indicate that the shortage of experimental monkeys is a carefully fabricated lie?

Since the 1990s, wild animals and plants have been constantly priced up. The value of nutria, orchids, Tibetan mastiff and cactus, etc. has been greatly exaggerated by the government and the media. After the foam was blown up, people in the industry sold them at high prices. Wild animal and plant breeding has become a tool to harvest the wealth of civilians.

In order to ensure the survival and safety of wildlife, implement national policies for biodiversity conservation, and promote the healthy development of the Chinese stock market, we call for:

1. The China Securities Regulatory Commission should not approve wild animal farms to register in the stock market in various forms, including being acquired, investing in companies undergoing IPOs, and so on.

2. Please urge the National Development and Reform Commission to make CRO listed companies to spin off the monkey market as soon as possible.

3. Please urge the State Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission to urge local state-owned enterprise investment units to withdraw from investing in wildlife trading companies.

4. The National Forestry and Grassland Administration should fulfill the responsibility of protecting wildlife and stop hunting and trafficking of wildlife.
