Briefing on CBCGDF International Communication and Cooperation Work (Updated by February 2024)
Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, the secretary-general of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), pointed out that wild species and environmental conservation have become an important part of "the Belt and Road" initiative and the concept of "a community with a shared future for mankind". CBCGDF has always adhered to the "going out" strategy, actively participated in global environmental governance, to promote international cooperation in the field of ecology, and built a broad international ecological circle of friends.
As one of the members of IUCN, GGBN and UN Global Compact, CBCGDF is also an observer organization of many MEAs including CITES, UNFCCC, CBD, CMS, UNCCD, Ramsar, ITPGRFA, FAO, IPBES, IPCC, ISA and BRS, and official data publisher for the GBIF.

CBCGDF actively spoke up at major international events such as the conferences of the parties to various MEAs, the World Conservation Congress, and the United Nations Ocean Conference, contributing China's solutions and wisdom, including participating in:
- negotiations on the UN Global Biodiversity Framework for three consecutive years,
- drafting of the declaration of the United Nations Environment Assembly, international papers like
- suggesting to add descriptions such as "ecological civilization" and "community with a shared future for mankind" to emerging international instruments such as the Global Pact for the Environment;
- submitting proposals to international organizations and conventions such as IUCN, CBD and Ramsar,
- drafting of the Action Plan for the Great Bustard in Asia under CMS;
- international standardization work such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO);
- the intergovernmental negotiating meetings of INC and BBNJ; and
- 16 international big science research plans and so on.

So far, CBCGDF has joined about 40 international organizations with 25 experts of high-level positions. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng serves as Vice President of the World Green Design Organization, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Club of Rome. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of IUCN Marine Connectivity Working Group and a member of the Expert Group of Global Pact for the Environment. He was honored as a member of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS). He has long been committed to the theoretical research and practice of sustainable development, promoting Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood (BCON). CBCGDF has also successfully recommended young talents to multiple MEAs, international organizations and academic institutions, calling on China to send experts to join the International Expert Group on Genetic Resource Digital Sequences in the early stages.
What’s more, CBCGDF also engages in friendly communications with international organizations, scientific institutions, indigenous and youth from various continents, and establishes extensive contacts and cooperation networks through the signing of cooperation memorandums and other forms.
In March 2018, Mr. Hu Deping, former deputy minister of the United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee and founding chairman of CBCGDF, met with Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, former Japanese Prime Minister
In May 2018, Dr. Razin Pachauri, former Chairman of IPCC visited Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, and reached a cooperation agreement on the 2018 World Forum on Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Education Forum
On July 11, 2018, Professor Jeffrey Lipman, former Deputy Secretary General of UNWTO and the first president of World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), visited CBCGDF and discussed cooperation on blockchain and sustainable tourism, as well as planning for the next WEF
On July 25, 2019, Dr. Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias, then Chairman of BirdLife International and former Executive Secretary of CBD, and Mr. Vinayagan Dharmarajah, Director of BirdLife Asia, visited CBCGDF to discuss bird and biodiversity conservation
In November 2019, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng met with Dr. Jane Goodall, UN Messenger of Peace, and a renowned British animal conservationist
In April 2023, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng met with Mr. Erik Solheim, former Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNEP
On November 8, 2023, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng met with Professor Harris Levin, Chairman of EBP and Academy members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences
On December 16, 2023, Mr. Eric Alauzet, Chairman of the Franco China Friendship Group, visited CBCGDF and participate in the Green Board Role-Playing event
In February 2024, Dr. Zhou Jinfeng met with Dr Kent Nnadozie, Secretary General of ITPGRFA, and Professor Fred Dubee, Member of the World Academy of Arts and Sciences (WAAS) and BGI International Advisory Committee
In recent years, CBCGDF has facilitated several international conservation projects, including the signing of a three-year cooperative agreement with UNDP on "Promoting China's Public Environmental Rights and Interests" (2015-2017), jointly research with EDF and developed the 2015 Investigation Report on China's Crime of Contaminating Environment Cases (2016), jointly organize a seminar on judicial practice of environmental public interest litigation (2016) with NRDC (2016), promote two dark sky protection sites in Ali and Naqu, Xizang, China, to be officially listed in WORLD LIST OF DARK SKY PLACES (2018), establish Community Conservation Area for Lion at Okenye, the first overseas CCAfa with the Mara Conservation Foundation and Nature Guardian (2018), held 15 spotted seal conserving education activities and compiled the popular science book "Spotted Seals on Broken Ice" with the support and guidance of relevant units and institutions such as the UNDP, the GEF Small Grants Programme, UNOPS, the Yellow Sea Large Marine Ecosystem (YSLME) Phase II Project Office and so on (2019), Signed a MOU with GARC and completed the localization and promotion of the Chinese online training course (2020). initiated and promoted the IUCN motion of " Adapting traditional medicine to achieve social and environmental sustainability" adopted by the World Conservation Congress and to become a global resolution (2020-2021), collaborated with Re:Wild and established the CBCGDF Re:wild-Conservation Fund (2022), collaborated with the The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and launched Clean Internet for Conophytum Initiative to Protect Tiny Succulent Plants in South Africa, with having published more than 110 science popularization articles and promoting the removal of over 70% of wild Conophytum from online sales in China (2023).
The CBCGDF has recently organized and participated in multiple events during important international events, including the 6th Paris Peace Forum with Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood (BCON) Initiative been selected as one of the 7 major solutions in the field of biodiversity, and organized a theme event - "Harmonious Coexistence with Nature: Smart Grid Systems" with State Grid Tianjin Electric Power Company during UNFCCC COP28, hosted two side events - "New Frontiers for Ecological Connectivity: From Policy to Implementation" and "Migratory Species and Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood" during CMS COP14, hosted an event with the theme "Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighbourhood: Human-based Solution to Address Nature Crisis," during UNEA-6.
