Why Should We Pay Attention to Naturewatching? | CBCGDF BCON’s Recommendation

On March 21, 2024, Biodiversity Conservation in Our Neighborhood Working Group of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF BCON) actively responded to the call to discuss the newly released Implementation Plan for Promoting Tourism Shopping Consumption (2024-2026) (Draft for Comment) in Shandong Province. CBCGDF BCON Working Group submitted two recommendations. Here is the Recommendation 2.

Recommendation 2

It is suggested to increase the content of “nature-watching” and give full play to the advantages of natural resources in Shandong to promote nature-friendly tourism consumption.

ReasonShandong Province has great potential to develop “nature-watching" (such as bird-watching tourism), and is expected to become one of the important supporting industries to promote the transformation and upgrading of local tourism and rural revitalization.

With rich natural resources and diverse natural landscapes, Shandong Province has great potential for the development of bird-watching tourism. Its coastal areas are rich in wetlands, beaches and island ecosystems, which provide rich habitats and migration channels for all kinds of birds. With the improvement of peoples awareness of environmental protection and attention to natural ecology, bird-watching tourism has gradually become a popular way of ecological tourism.

Shandong is a large Marine province with a coastline of more than 3,500 kilometers. It is located on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF), and tens of thousands of birds gather in the tidal wetlands every year. The rich bird resources and diverse ecological landscapes in Shandong Province can provide unique conditions for bird-watching tourism, and at the same time can promote the development of local tourism services, and promote the virtuous circle of ecological protection and economic development.
