CBCGDF Conversation with the 73rd United Nations General Assembly: How Can Social Organizations Participate in Global Governance?
Recently, Dr Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), held informal talks with María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the 73rd United Nations General Assembly. Dr Zhou asked about the difficulties of social organizations participating in global governance, such as funding, culture, and language and would like to be guidance to facilitate greater learning and participation.
Ms. Espinosa responded that the participation of social organizations is an important part of global governance. She believes the United Nations should be more open and that the contributions of different cultures and perspectives are valuable to global governance. She also shared her experience working for the United Nations and the Ecuadorian government, emphasizing the importance of mechanisms such as the Indigenous Knowledge Platform in promoting diverse participation.
