Ice thawing, a Fishing Net Cage Can Illegally Catch Dozens of Kilograms of Fish | CBCGDF Wetland Conservation Area in Suihua Increases Fishing Protection Patrols

On March 17th, 2024, while patrolling the Hulan River Bridge in Beilin District, Suihua City, volunteers of the Suihua Wetland Conservation Area of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) discovered that a number of people were fishing with tools such as buckets and nets. After a while, they pulled up a net cage from the river.

The volunteers retained video footage of their illegal fishing scene and poured the catch which weighed dozen kilograms from the net cage into buckets. They spread the net cage out to find that it’s over ten meters long and can catch up to a hundred kilograms of fish.

Starting from 2018, Hulan District of Harbin City announced the fishing-ban. According to relevant regulations, volunteers released all the fish caught in the fishing net cage and conducted legal education on the illegal fishing. They also reported this case to the local law enforcement department and now it is under further processing.
