The Meeting of 2024 International Center for Responsible Tourism China has been Held on March 21

On March 21, 2024, the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) held a Meeting of the 2024 International Center for Responsible Tourism China (ICRT China). Dr. Harold Goodwin, Director of ICRT China, chaired the meeting. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of CBCGDF, participated in the discussion at this meeting together with his colleagues.

The International Center for Responsible Tourism China (ICRT China) was established in March 2020 to promote the concept of "responsible tourism", lead the best practices and research in "responsible tourism", and promote the green development of China's tourism industry. Responsible Tourism is closely related to the United Nations sustainable development agenda, ecological civilization ideas, realization of "double carbon" goals, biodiversity protection and green development.

Dr. Harold Goodwin shared the current status, development and plans of global responsible tourism in China. Dr. Zhou Jinfeng introduced the future development of tourism in Hainan, China, and looked forward to helping more cities in China achieve responsible tourism under the guidance of Dr. Harold Goodwin.

The following is a brief summary of this meeting:

Dr. Zhou Jinfeng emphasized that although the development of tourism is positive, we must seriously think about how to ensure that the development of tourism not only benefits mankind, but also achieves sustainable development. He pointed out that the development of tourism requires all relevant parties, including governments, facility providers, travel agents, hotels and tourist destinations, to take responsibility and also to be accountable to participants. He stressed the importance of responsible tourism and noted that now is the right time to promote responsible tourism.

Dr. Harold Goodwin first shared what valuable tourism is, and particularly emphasized that the purpose of tourism is to appreciate the culture, history, customs, etc. of different regions and to feel the local characteristics. Secondly, he shared the serious problem currently faced by the international tourism industry: overtourism. Finally, Dr. Harold Goode introduced the future of the Global Responsible Tourism Award in China and its current situation in the world and pointed out that it is very meaningful to expect to be able to show China's responsible tourism case to the world.
