CBCGDF Call for Cleaning the Fishing Net as Soon as Possible | Many Fishing Nets Have Been Found at Tianjin Binhai Beach
In 2023, Tianjin Satellite TV reported a news: There were a large number of prohibited fishing gear in the waters of Dashentang. According to the report, these fishermen illegally set up rows of ground cage nets on the tidal flats of the sea during low tide, forming a barrier and leaving the nets unclosed for a long time in order to capture various creatures in the seawater after repeated high and low tides.
A year later, this situation is still prevalent.
Due to the great harm to marine life and fishery resources, in the past two to three years, citizens passing by the waters here have reported it to law enforcement agencies many times after discovering it, but they have only dealt with the symptoms but not the root cause, and nothing has happened. The reporter reported the matter to the law enforcement department. Law enforcement officials said that they have conducted several special clean-up operations for illegal nets since 2021, but because they could not find the fishermen who lowered the nets, they were unable to hold illegal fishing personnel accountable.
It is understood that the problem of illegally laying ground cage nets in Tianjin's offshore waters still exists. On March 21, 2024, CBCGDF researchers saw many poles used to fix ground cage nets erected on the water near Dashentang Beach. There were also many waterbirds looking for food on the tidal flat. Among these waterbirds, there are about 50 relict gulls, a national first-level key protected wild animal, which is much less than in previous years.
Now that spring is here, various aquatic organisms such as birds, marine fish, and shrimps living near the coast begin to move frequently as the temperature rises, and gradually enter the breeding period, and their demand for food also increases. Therefore, it is recommended that relevant departments clean up these illegal fishing tools stretching along the beaches as soon as possible to avoid competing with birds for food.
