Occurrence Data of Larus Relictus in Bagua Coastal Mudflat in Tianjin Binhai New Area Released on Global Biodiversity Information Facility

On March 22, 2024, the GBIF working group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) released the occurrence data of Larus relictus observed in Tianjin Binhai New Area on Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) for reference and downloading. 

 



The Relict gull (Larus relictus) is a medium-sized gull and with a stocky, thick body.  The population is estimated to be at 10,000 or less, with numbers dropping. It is classified as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List.

 

The release of this data includes the date in the coastal mudflat from the Fengnan boundary of Bagua coastal mudflat in Binhai New Area to the estuary of Yongding New River from 2019 to 2024, and it is reported that the number this year is significantly less than that in previous years. According to the historical monitoring data, the number of relict gulls in March 2021 exceeded 4,500, March in 2022 exceeded 5,000, the number in Marich 2023 was only about 1,000, and the number in March 2024 is less than 100.

 

The Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an international scientific project that brings together biodiversity data from all over the world. It is known as one of the most important "infrastructures" of global biodiversity informatics, a providing important open data support for global scientific research and environmental protection.
