60 Yellow-fronted Canaries Seized by Luohu Customs | CBCGDF BASE
Recently, a passenger illegally carried 60 Yellow-fronted Canaries, an alien species, and was seized at Luohu Customs. It is reported that when the Luohu Customs officers were supervising the incoming passengers, they found 5 boxes with air holes in the luggage of the person concerned, each of which contained 12 live birds, a total of 60 birds. After identification, the batch of live birds were Yellow-fronted Canaries, which have no natural distribution in China.
The
yellow-fronted canary is related to the wild ancestors of the domesticated
canary, so they have very similar habits. The yellow-fronted canary has a clear
and pleasant voice and bright colors. It is a pet for bird lovers in China and
one of the most traded birds in China's illegal bird market.
Although
this species is not included in the endangered list, the yellow-fronted canary
has no natural distribution in China and is an alien species. It is prohibited
to bring live animals and plants into the country without approval.
Birds
are an important part of biodiversity. They are responsible for transporting
seeds and nutrients, participating in the energy flow and inorganic material
cycle within the system, and maintaining the balance and stability of the
ecosystem. For birds and other wild animals, not buying or selling them is the
best way to protect them. Allow them to fly freely in their habitats.
