CBCGDF-OceanWetlands Editor-in-Chief Linda Wong Participated in the WWQA Advisory Committee's Second Meeting

On January 22, 2025, at 10:00 pm (Beijing time), Ms. Linda Wong, Deputy Secretary-General of China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF), Editor-in-Chief of OceanWetlands, and member of the WWQA Advisory Committee, attended its second meeting (the first meeting of 2025), which was attended by about 18 participants from all over the world.

The meeting provided updates from the WWQA and confirmed future meeting dates; reviewed the ongoing efforts being done by WWQA members in closing water quality monitoring data gaps, as well as the strategic direction for resource mobilization and building more partnerships.

The meeting mainly discussed the work plan and activities schedule for 2025. During the brainstorming session, Ms. Linda Wong put forward 4 suggestions: 1) To cooperate with the United Nations Ocean Conference; 2) To explore cooperation with IUCN, say, with the upcoming World Conservation Congress (WCC) to be held at the end of the year; 3) To explore joint training in water governance with regional centers in conjunction with water education institutions; 4) Offered some advice on water communication strategies.

The WWQA represents a voluntary, flexible and global, multi-stakeholder network that advocates the central role of freshwater quality in achieving prosperity and sustainability. It explores, monitors, analyses and communicates water-quality risks at global, regional, national and local levels with the aim of identifying solutions for the maintenance and restoration of the health and well-being of both ecosystems and humans. The WWQA serves countries throughout the lifetime of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and beyond. It provides a participatory platform for water-quality assessment and the co-design of tailored and demand-driven services at all levels with a special emphasis on the involvement of local communities and the younger generations whose future is at risk.

The WWQA focuses on improving the quality of water around the world by working as a genuine partnership. Everyone, no matter their qualifications or expertise, has an important role to play. The efforts of the WWQA are currently divided into 16 active workstreams to ensure the involvement of society as a whole.
