CBCGDF Dark Sky Community Conservation Area in Ali (CCAfa006)
The China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) Dark Sky Community Conservation Area in Ali (CCAfa006) is the sixth CBCGDF CCAfa established in June 2016 by the Dark Sky Working Committee of CBCGDF, the Administrative Office of Ali Prefecture, and the Ali Observatory.
This Community Conservation Area in Ali is located in the mountainous area 30 kilometers south of Shiquanhe Town, Ali, with an average altitude of 4,200 meters. The observatory is 5,100 meters above sea level, with a clear sky rate of more than 80%, an atmospheric transparency of less than 0.1, a night sky background of more than 21.7, and a seeing degree of 0.8, reaching the world's top astronomical observation data indicators.
The total planned area of the CBCGDF Dark Sky Community Conservation Area in Ali is 2,500 square kilometers, based on the Ali Observatory and the Ali Observatory astronomical observation base as the core, including the core area, buffer zone and peripheral area. The outdoor lighting in the planned reserve and peripheral areas should not project lights into the sky, and the color temperature should be controlled below 2,500k--4,000k. A scientific, reasonable and environmentally friendly lighting system will be gradually established.
Dark sky refers to the night sky that is not polluted by light. As one of the important natural resources, dark sky has outstanding strategic value, economic value and cultural value. Dark night is an important basis for astronomical observation and has irreplaceable scientific value in the fields of astronomical research and space exploration. Dark sky also provides conditions for biological circadian rhythms and affects the activity patterns of organisms. In addition, dark sky also has a positive impact on human health, cultural development, energy conservation and emission reduction.
The CBCGDF Dark Sky Community Conservation Area in Ali is initiated and evaluated by the Dark Sky Working Committee of CBCGDF. By controlling and managing light pollution, the starry sky cultural industry with the basic connotation of dark sky protection, starry sky science popularization and starry sky tourism that meet the standards is developed in qualified areas, mobilizing social forces to pay attention to the night environment and care for the beautiful starry sky.
A beautiful China needs a beautiful starry sky. As a national society, CBCGDF has long been committed to promoting biodiversity conservation and green development. Since 2015, it has been unremittingly promoting the protection of dark sky, actively advocating the protection of dark sky in different regions and environments such as plateaus, tidal flats and wetlands, mountainous areas, and lakes, and formulated T/CGDF 0001-2018 "Dark Sky Conservation Area Project Standard".
