CBCGDF-OceanWetlands Input for China's New Standard of Technical Specification for Survey and Assessment of Biological Resources in Waters around Islands and Reefs (GB/T 45058—2024)
The national standard "Technical Specification for Survey and Assessment of Biological Resources in Waters around Islands and Reefs" (GB/T 45058—2024), spearheaded by the South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, was officially approved and announced by the State Administration for Market Regulation (National Standardization Administration) through Announcement No. 32 [2024]. It is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
This standard specifies the general requirements for the survey of biological resources in waters around islands and reefs, covering technical requirements for the investigation and assessment of marine ecology, seaweed/seagrass, fish eggs, larvae and juveniles, swimming animals, and related data archiving. It outlines the corresponding verification methods and applies to the survey and assessment of biological resources in island, coral reef, and rocky reef waters. The release of this standard provides a new reference framework for standardizing survey techniques and assessment requirements, unifying data calculation and statistical analysis methods, and scientifically managing the development and utilization of biological resources in island and reef waters.
Previously, in 2022, the OceanWetlands Working Group of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (CBCGDF) was invited to comment and has submited 4 recommendations for consideration in the Draft of the "Technical Specification for Survey and Assessment of Biological Resources in Waters around Islands and Reefs". It's great to see the official publication now.
